From June 2016 to July 2018, I lived and worked in Moldova as a Peace Corps Volunteer. You can read more about my time there here​. The district of Gagauzia in the south of Moldova is recognized as a semi-autonomous region of Moldova. This region is ethnically descended from the Ottoman Turks who ruled Moldova at various points in history and have a unique and distinct culture as well as traditions and even language. Comrat is the capital city of the region.
