I traveled to Romania in the summer of 2017 with my parents. During our trip, we spent a day in Maramures County, in the north of Romania.  Here, we visited a couple wooden churches dating many centuries old, Barsana Monastery, and stayed the night at a home stay in Breb, a small village.  During Turkish rule, the people in this area were forbidden from building churches with the more durable material of stone, so they instead built wooden churches, never expecting them to stay standing this long.  Read more about the wooden churches here and about our home stay here.
