From June 2016 to July 2018, I lived and worked in Moldova as a Peace Corps Volunteer. You can read more about my time there here​. One of the top destinations to visit in Moldova outside of the capital city, Chisinau, is the city of Soroca in the far north.  This city has the only remaining medieval fortress in the country as well as sweeping views of the Nistru River valley.  Of particular interest for tourists are the Soroca Fortress, built in 1499, the Thanksgiving Candle Monument, which has spectacular views, and "Gypsy Hill", a street with various extravagantly built houses built by the Roma population living in Soroca.  Read more about our visit here.
