I traveled to Romania in the summer of 2017 with my parents.  As we were driving between Brasov and Sighisoara, we could see what appeared to be a large walled fortress above us on a hill.  We decided to check it out and it ended up being a very well preserved citadel.  Rupea Fortress was built sometime before 1324.  We visited on a morning when it was fairly empty, which allowed us to explore on our own slowly.  In addition to the citadel being so well preserved, the surrounding mountain views were also very beautiful.  Read more about our visit to Rupea Fortress here.
